Foundations of Resistance

The Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation’s Foundations of Resistance (RESIST) is a California-funded curriculum for grades 6-12. It teaches students how to counter antisemitism through lessons inspired by the Jewish partisans of World War II. The course includes interactive "Webquests" where students explore empathy and resistance to hate. RESIST supports teachers in leading this critical work, helping students build the knowledge and skills to challenge hate in today’s world.

Challenge

Building a complex educational website with interactive question/answer sections, dynamic quizzes, custom-generated PDFs, and animations requires a scalable, flexible, and user-friendly system. The website must ensure seamless navigation between various sections and personalize user experiences. Managing real-time data, handling user sessions for personalized experiences, creating a custom back-end for teacher logins, and making the site responsive across devices add complexity. Moreover, the website needs to accommodate future expansions and maintainability.

Solution

Craft CMS, known for its flexibility, was the perfect foundation for building this complex website. We discussed key themes, ideas, and development decisions, successfully translating the client’s vision into a beautiful and highly functional website. Custom Bootstrap CSS ensured a responsive, polished design while incorporating subtle animations to enhance user engagement. Advanced PHP sessions were utilized to manage quiz states and generate custom PDFs for student submissions. A fully-featured login system was customized to manage Teacher accounts and submission entries.
